With the onset of frost in most parts of Ukraine, the Kyiv Institute of Consumer Expertise decided to check the networks of filling stations for the presence of really winter diesel fuel and took samples from the most popular networks. The results of the study showed what kind of fuel you can safely refuel your car with when it reaches minus 25 degrees Celsius outside the window.

Experts tried to make the maximum by taking samples from networks with all-Ukrainian status, as well as small and medium-sized regional retailers. Fuel samples from WOG, OKKO, BRSM-Nafta, Prime, Klo, Amic, ANP, Glusco, Avantage 7, Motto, Shell, Sunoil, U.GO, and Chipo filling stations went to the certified laboratory. The studies were conducted on taking into an account five main parameters regulated by DSTU ( State Standards of Ukraine) 7688 to: 2015: filtration limit temperature, cetane index, sulfur content and flash point.

All tested samples are marked as “euro”. First of all, the experts tested them in the freezer. The results were unexpected – all samples not only meet the standards (minus 20 ° C), but also showed a stock! Moreover, three of the 12 samples turned out to be “Arctic”. The best results were shown by diesel fuel from BRSM-Nafta – minus 34 ° С, Prime (- 33 ° С) and Chipo (- 32 ° С). According to the experts, this is the first time they have seen such concern for consumers. The rest of the participants showed excellent results too, with the “minimum” reserve in Amic at – 25 ° C. Next, we measured the cetane index, which reflects the impact on the fuel of additives that improve its cetane number. The higher the index, the easier the engine starts in the cold weather and runs more stably. This time no one had any difficulties with overcoming the threshold of at least 46 units. According to this indicator, the Chipo network model was also among the leaders with a value of 53.5.

Well, what about the main enemy of the environment and the fuel system – sulfur? During combustion, the concentrate of sulfuric and sulfuric acids not only cokes the neutralizers and fuel equipment, but also irritates the mucous membrane of a man. If before the “high acidity” was tolerated due to the good lubricating properties of sulfur, then the invention of perfect diesel additives declared a battle to sulfur. With each new Euro norm, it should remain less and less: the Euro-3, adopted in 1999, allowed the presence of 350 ppm (mg / kg) of sulfur in 1 kg, then introduced ten years later (and valid now in Ukraine) Euro-5 – no more than 10 ppm. The leading four, which includes our network (BRSM-Oil, Prime, Chipo, Avantage 7) fell to 5-7 mg / kg. Well, finally the flash point. This parameter can indicate either the “diesel” get or not foreign components. No violations were detected among the participants; the highest rates were in BRSM-Nafta, Prime and Chipo.
